Charities named for Austal USA's 13th annual Charity Golf Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA’s 13th annual Charity Golf Invitational will take place on March 15, 2024, at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course in Mobile.  Through this annual event, Austal USA and the many invitational participants have raised over $2.4 million for long-time event partner United Way of Southwest Alabama and other local charities within the last decade.  The charity invitational is one of the many ways Austal USA gives back to the community who’s enduring support has resulted in our success as a major defense contractor.

This year’s recipients of the proceeds of the golf tournament will be United Way of Southwest Alabama; Penelope House shelter and advocacy center for victims of domestic violence and their children; Wilmer Hall Children’s Home; McKemie Place temporary housing shelter for women; and, H2Overcome – an adventure-based peer support program for veterans, active duty members, first responders, and their family members.

“Putting on this charity event is one of the highlights of the year for the Austal USA team.  We are pleased that, due to the great support of our teammates and vendors, we are able to support five charities this year,” Austal USA VP for Business Development and External Affairs Lawrence Ryder said. “The Austal USA Charity Golf Invitational gives our shipbuilding team the opportunity to partner with our teammates, vendors, local community leaders and these special charities to bring awareness to their cause and assist them with achieving their missions.  It provides our team an opportunity to give back to our community.”

"On behalf of the United Way of Southwest Alabama, we extend heartfelt gratitude to Austal USA, its dedicated employees, sponsors, vendors, and all tournament participants for their remarkable generosity. Together, we are creating positive change in our community—where we live, work, and play. Your support fuels the engine of progress, making our collective impact greater than ever. Annually, we are able to provide health and human services and programing for over 240,000 local people. Thank you for being the driving force behind a brighter and more resilient future for us all." - Justine Bixler, President & CEO, United Way of Southwest Alabama.
