Mobile, Ala. – Austal USA’s shipbuilding team once again demonstrated their commitment to safety in the workplace by earning the American Equity Underwriter’s (AEU) Excellence in Safety Award for performance in 2024.  As the leading provider of workers’ compensation for waterfront employers, AEU presents safety awards each year to its best performing members nationwide.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA celebrated the official start of construction on the future USNS Solomon Atkinson (T-ATS 12), the Navy’s seventh Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship, with a keel laying ceremony today at the company’s Mobile, Ala. ship manufacturing facility.  Ship sponsors Joann Atkinson, Solomon Atkinson’s widow, and daughters Michele Gunyah and Maria Hayward, authenticated the keel by welding their initials into a keel plate that will be welded to the hull of the ship.  They were assisted by Rufus Lord, a fifteen-year Austal USA veteran A-class welder.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA welcomed Rear Admiral Paul Carroll, Director of Submarine Acquisition at the UK Ministry of Defense, at the company’s Mobile, Ala. shipyard yesterday. RAdm Carroll visited to Austal USA to see the company’s facility and the submarine manufacturing efforts supporting the Submarine Industrial Base in conjunction with his meetings with Program Executive Office for Submarines on bi-lateral industrial base efforts.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA held a christening ceremony today for the company’s first steel ship, future USNS Billy Frank Jr., the Navy’s sixth Towing, Salvage and Rescue Ship (T-ATS 11), at the company’s Mobile, Ala. ship manufacturing facility.  Ship sponsor Peggen Frank christened the ship by breaking a champagne bottle over the bow in front of hundreds of guests, including: Dr. Brett Seidle, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition (acting); Rear Admiral Thomas Anderson, USN, Program Executive Officer Ships; Rear Admiral Mark Haigis, USN, Deputy Commander, Military Sealift Command; and ship namesake representative the Honorable William Frank III (son of Billy Frank, Jr.)

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA recognized the company’s top suppliers last week at the company’s annual spring Supplier Fair.  Over 50 of Austal USA’s team of suppliers -- direct and indirect vendors -- came together at the shipbuilder’s Mobile, Alabama manufacturing facility to exhibit their products and services and meet the workforce they support. The supplier fair also included the presentation of awards to suppliers who have gone above and beyond, setting new standards in excellence, collaboration, performance, and outstanding contributions.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA’s 2025 Charity Golf Invitational, held last Friday, raised over $225,000 for 14 local charities.  This event, held annually for over a decade at the Magnolia Grove Golf Course, has raised over $2.7 million for local non-profit organizations, including long-time event partner United Way of Southwest Alabama.  The charity invitational is one of the many ways Austal USA gives back to the community whose enduring support has enabled the company’s success as a major defense contractor for 25 years.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA was recognized by Business Alabama as the 2024 Large Company of the Year at their annual awards luncheon in Birmingham, Ala., Friday, February 28.  According to Alec Harvey, Business Alabama Magazine Executive Editor, these awards honor the best in Alabama business.

MOBILE, Ala. – Austal USA welcomed the Honorable Dr. Brett Seidle, acting Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research Development and Acquisition (ASN RDA) at the company’s Mobile, Ala. shipyard yesterday. Dr. Seidle, joined by Rear Admiral (RADM) Tom Anderson, Program Executive Officer Ships, toured the shipyard’s facility and discussed the company’s growing diversity of design and shipbuilding contracts with members of Austal USA’s senior leadership team.  During his tour, Dr. Seidle witnessed Austal USA’s talented workforce in action.

Austal USA and Austal Limited remain committed to their respective obligations outlined in the previously announced settlements with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).  As part of its plea agreement with the DOJ, Austal USA accepted responsibility for the criminal conduct of its former employees that was the subject of that agreement.
